Iron Fist star Finn Jones and showrunner M. Raven Metzner have addressed the cancellation of the show. It was abruptly announced late Friday night that Netflix cancelled the Marvel show after only two seasons. The news came as a shock to fans who enjoyed Season 2, which was received far better than the first season. The cast and crew of Iron Fist were notified only a few hours before the announcement was made public. Within the announcement, there seem to be hints that the show may return at some point, but that has yet to officially confirmed.

Finn Jones starred as Danny Rand in Iron Fist and released a statement through social media about the cancellation. Jones was announced as the superhero back in March of 2016 and he has since been seen in The Defenders as well as a stint in the second season of Luke Cage. Jones had this to say about the Iron Fist cancellation.

"With every end is a new beginning. I have an enormous amount of love and respect for everyone involved with the last two seasons of this show. Defending the greatest city in the world amongst the most talented and warmest people has been a privilege and a joy. Blessed to have taken this journey and grateful for the ongoing support."

Finn Jones seems to be teasing that Iron Fist could come back as well, which at this time, seems unlikely. Showrunner M. Raven Metzner also responded to the show's cancellation on social media, and is grateful that he was able to work on the show. Metzner took over for original showrunner Scott Buck for Season 2 and had this to say about the cancellation.

"A huge thank you to everyone who made S2 of Iron Fist possible. It has been one of the great pleasures of my life to work on this show and to be a part of this chapter. I am so proud of what we achieved."

Marvel fans are hoping for a Heroes for Hire series, but that seems unlikely since the original report noted that Netflix is getting ready to renew Luke Cage any time now. While there is hope that Iron Fist will come back for Disney's upcoming streaming service, that seems doubtful, even though it has been teased. However, we might still get to see Finn Jones make appearances in the other Marvel Netflix shows in the future.

This is bad news for Iron Fist fans, but the cancellation could lead the way to a Night Nurse spinoff or Daughters of the Dragon, especially since the end of Season 2 sets that up with Colleen Wing taking over the fist. Marvel fans would undoubtedly be pretty excited for those ideas, though nothing has been announced at this time. While we wait for more news about the future of live-action Danny Rand, you can check out the response to the cancellation below, thanks to Finn Jones' Instagram account.
