In Season 3 of House of Cards, which is currently streaming on Netflix, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) finally ascended to the Presidency, although he performed a number of heinous acts to achieve his ultimate goal. As it turns out, more Americans would prefer to have this fictional POTUS in office than the current Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama. A Reuters poll taken earlier this month reveals that just 46% of Americans have a favorable opinion of Barack Obama, while 57% of respondents in the same poll gave Frank Underwood a favorable opinion.

In fact, several other TV presidents scored much higher than Obama's 46%. 24's President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) scored a whopping 89% favorable rating, out of those respondents who have seen the Fox series. The West Wing's Jed Bartlett (Martin Sheen) was just behind Palmer with an 82% approval rating, followed by Battlestar Galactica's Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) with 78%, and Scandal's Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn) with 60%. The survey takers were asked if they would give these fictional characters a favorable or unfavorable opinion of them, if they were actually the President of the United States.

With that being said, Presidential history buff Tevi Troy revealed it would be nearly impossible for any modern-day President to secure such high approval ratings in our modern society, because the country is so radically divided between Republicans and Democrats. Here's what he had to say below.

"Pretty much half the country is going to be predisposed against you just because that's the way we line up with Republicans and Democrats."

Ironically, Barack Obama himself revealed at a December 2013 White House photo op with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, that he likes the way Frank Underwood handles his business. Of course, this fictional character is seen killing a sitting Congressman by leaving him passed out in a running car in a garage, and kills a journalist by pushing her into the path of a subway train. Here's what Barack Obama had to say about Frank Underwood back in December 2013.

"This guy's getting a lot of stuff done. I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient."

Barack Obama did manage to secure one "victory" of sorts in the poll, with only 24% holding a positive opinion of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It's also worth noting that an Annenberg poll released last fall revealed that just 36% of Americans could name all three branches of the American government, and 35% couldn't name any of them at all. That poll also found that 60% of Americans don't know which political party controls the House of Representatives and the Senate, 70% of Americans didn't know a two-thirds vote in both the House of Representatives and Senate are required to override a Presidential veto, and 21% thought that a 5-4 ruling in the Supreme Court meant that the decision is sent back to Congress for a final decision.
