In advance of the highly-anticipated Season 5 premiere of Homeland on Sunday, October 4th at 9 p.m. ET/PT, Showtime has released the full-length trailer for its Emmy and Golden Globe-winning hit drama series. Recently nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Drama series, Homeland stars Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes, Emmy nominee Rupert Friend, Oscar winner and Emmy nominee F. Murray Abraham, Sebastian Koch, Screen Actors Guild winner Miranda Otto, Alexander Fehling, Sarah Sokolovic, and Emmy and Tony winner Mandy Patinkin.

Homeland Season 5 will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison's (Claire Danes) ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the "war on terror," Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working as the head of security for a German philanthropist. Homeland is currently in production in Berlin, and is the first American TV series to shoot entirely in Germany.

Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, Homeland was developed for American television by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and is based on the original Israeli series Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff. Along with Gansa and Gordon, the executive producers for Season Five are Meredith Stiehm, Patrick Harbinson, Chip Johannessen, Alexander Cary, Lesli Linka Glatter, Gideon Raff, Avi Nir and Ran Telem. Showtime is currently available to subscribers via cable, DBS and telco providers, and as a stand-alone streaming service through Apple and Roku. Consumers can also subscribe to Showtime via Hulu and Sony Network Entertainment International LLC's PlayStation(R) Vue.

Homeland's season premiere on October 4 at 9 PM ET will be followed by the Season 2 premiere of The Affair at 10 PM ET. Homeland is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at next month's The Emmy Awards, but many were surprised when The Affair was snubbed. The series, which debuted last fall, won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series earlier this year, but it was completely snubbed by the Emmys.

Along with being nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, Homeland's Claire Danes earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress, F. Murray Abraham was nominated for Outstanding Guest Star and Lesli Linka Glatter, earned an Outstanding Directing nomination. What do you think of this new Homeland footage? Could this show become a serious award contender once again? We'll keep you posted with more updates as we get closer and closer to Homeland kicking off its 12-episode Season 5.
