Never fear, Marvel fans because Peggy Carter is coming back to the world of Marvel. No, Netflix didn't finally decide to pick up a third season of Agent Carter, but Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter in a different Marvel show. This time, she will be stepping in to voice the character on the animated series Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars.

The news of Hayley Atwell's return to the world of Marvel broke during the Marvel Animation Panel at New York Comic Con this weekend. VP of Current Series & Development Stephen Wacker made the announcement, which was a welcomed surprise for fans of the character. Ever since the announcement was made that Agent Carter had been canceled by ABC, there have been questions about Hayley Atwell's willingness to return and she had stated previously that she was very open to the idea. Here is what she had to say in an interview with The Wrap back in August.

"I'd love it to be [still on the table]. The great thing about Peggy is she lives a long life. I'm banking on being in my 50s and going, 'Let's see what Peggy's up to.'"

Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars is technically the fourth season of what was originally titled Avengers Assemble. The show went under that name for the first two seasons, but then changed to Avengers: Ultron Revolution for season 3. Then, during San Diego Comic-Con over the summer, it was announced that the fourth season of the show would be titled Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars. The new season will bring in characters like Black Panther, Ant-Man, Ms. Marvel and we now know Peggy Carter will be joining up with The Avengers as well.

Hayley Atwell played the role of Peggy Carter for two seasons on ABC during the run of Agent Carter. Fans really loved the character, but the show wasn't doing all that well so the network decided to move on. That didn't stop die-hard Marvel fans from holding out hope that Agent Carter would find another home, with some fans even starting a Change.org petition for Netflix to step in and save the series. The petition didn't work, but it is that kind of love for the character that likely helped lead to Hayley Atwell getting brought on for Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars.

Peggy Carter was first brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The First Avenger. She reprised the role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and then sadly passed away in Captain America: Civil War. As Hayley Atwell pointed out, there is a lot of history to tap into with the character, so there is a lot of potential for her to show up in Marvel projects down the line. For now, fans can look forward to at least hearing Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter when Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars debuts. The show will air on Disney XD, but no premiere date has been announced yet.
