We might soon enough see Billy Ray Cyrus rocking the mullet once again, as the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer says there are discussions at Disney+ for a Hannah Montana prequel series. With his real-life daughter Miley Cyrus starring as the teenage pop singer in the original Disney Channel series, Billy Ray played her character's father, Robby Stewart. Speaking about the show in a new interview with Hollywood Life, Cyrus reveals Disney is talking about revisiting Hannah Montana with a prequel series, and if so, he would be on board to reprise his role without hesitation.

"They're talking about doing a prequel, which to me, I would do that in a heartbeat," Cyrus says of a possible Hannah Montana revival. Eager to return to his classic '90s hairstyle, Cyrus also says of his potential return: "Because that means I get to get my mullet back." Lending further credence to the concept, Cyrus seems to feel that developing a prequel series for Hannah Montana would be a great way to revive the series. "I think there's a whole story that led up to Miley becoming Hannah Montana," he says of the concept.

Hannah Montana followed Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart, a schoolgirl living a double life as an international pop star. Billy Ray's character, Robby "Robbie Ray" Stewart, was also a famous singer who retired from the music business to focus on raising his children following the death of his wife. Looking back on the role now, Cyrus also remembers how apprehensive he was about his casting at first. "They had cast me as her dad, and I said, 'They should get a real actor. I don't want to mess that show up. They should get a real actor to play her dad, because this is a great script and a great concept,'" he recalls.

Of course, one big question that remains for a potential Hannah Montana prequel series is whether Miley Cyrus herself would be involved. As a prequel series, a new child actress would need to be used to represent the character on the show, and the older version of Miley Stewart doesn't necessarily need to ever be shown. Still, it's hard to fathom any kind of Hannah Montana follow-up with no involvement from the younger Cyrus whatsoever, and even a limited cameo appearance would go a long way towards pleasing fans of the original.

It's very possible we could see this potential Hannah Montana prequel become a reality, as Disney has been actively reviving many franchises for their new streaming service. The Mighty Ducks is one of many other titles reportedly in the works at Disney+, and there are also live-action remakes planned for animated classics like Peter Pan and Lilo & Stitch. As the success of Hannah Montana led to two feature films from Disney at one point, it's easy to see why the House of Mouse would look at the possibility of somehow bringing it back, even sans Miley Cyrus.
