The Handmaid's Tale season 5 is officially happening at Hulu. Disney made the announcement this afternoon during their Investor Day presentation. In addition, Hulu released a video of the cast members, who are currently working on season 4 in Canada. Elisabeth Moss and crew thanked the fans while announcing their return to work, while sharing the season 5 renewal news. While season 4 has been delayed, it's beginning to look like fans have a lot more to look forward to in the near future.

Season 3 of The Handmaid's Tale was driven by June's resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead and her struggle to strike back against overwhelming odds. Startling reunions, betrayals, and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead forced all characters to take a stand, guided by one defiant prayer: "Blessed be the fight." The series stars Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle, Amanda Brugel, and Bradley Whitford.

The Handmaid's Tale season 4 is still a mystery at this point in time. However, it has been confirmed that it will premiere in 2021 on hulu. A firm release date was not revealed, but that will likely be announced early in the new year. Production was delayed on the upcoming season due to the public health crisis, which Elisabeth Moss announced earlier this year. "We shut down production of season four in order to preserve the health and safety of our cast and crew and join the world in an attempt to flatten the curve. This show is my life and this cast and crew is my family. Nothing is more important than making sure they and everyone around them is safe. We hope to be back in production as soon as it's safe to do so. In the meantime stay safe and healthy and take care of yourselves. So much love from our family to yours," said the actress.

It's not clear how far along The Handmaid's Tale season 4 production is at this time. Further restrictions are going out in North America, and the holidays are upon us, so it might be a little bit longer before we get to see any real footage from the show. Fans are hoping that the footage will give some kind of tease about what will go down when season 4 premieres next year.

The Handmaid's Tale season 4 will likely to pick up on the cliffhanger ending of season three where June (Elisabeth Moss) was swept away by her fellow handmaidens. The children were able to escape and make their journey to Canada. Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) was also arrested in the final episode, which will have an impact on her future when the new season takes place.
