A new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is here. This is a continuation of the animated series that has been airing on Disney XD since 2015. However, Marvel likes to change up the titles of the shows from time to time to sort of better fit what is going on, narratively speaking, in the series at that time.

In this case, it behooved them to name the current iteration of the show after the attraction that exists at Disney's California Adventure theme park. What a coincidence, right? In any event, it looks like a fun way to continue the adventures of Star-Lord and the gang on the small screen.

The trailer itself gives us just enough to understand what's coming our way when new episodes arrive. The gang will be dealing with a mysterious mirror that can bend reality. As such, we see the Guardians in a wide variety of different animation styles and settings, including Gamora in a classic Disney Princess scenario. It's not even a minute worth of footage, but it is just enough action to help fill the void until we get another proper movie in the franchise.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout centers on the Black Vortex, which will see our heroes escape the Collector's collapsing ship by jumping into a mirror that serves as a prison dimension capable of taking on any form. Hence, the various animation styles. Upon entering the mirror, the Guardians wind up separated and trapped in strange, new worlds. Each of them brought to life using a different animation technique. Some of the techniques employed include CG-stop motion, children's book illustration, 8-bit, motion comic, Golden Age and traditional CG. So there's going to be a lot going on.

The cast for the series includes Will Friedle as Star-Lord, Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, David Sobolov as Drax and Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot. Interestingly, Marshall also voiced another beloved green alien on Disney XD in the form of Hera on Star Wars Rebels, just as a fun little aside. Apparently, she's got that market cornered.

At present, the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are on hold as James Gunn is busy making The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Disney, after a whole lot of hullabaloo, hired the filmmaker back to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will be coming our way at some point in the future. For now, this show will have to do.

Though, viewers can get a dose of the Guardians members who weren't dusted by Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, which is finally in theaters. But after that, Marvel fans are going to need somewhere else to turn. This may do the trick. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout returns on May 5.
