Drew Powell has signed on for a recurring role on Gotham, which was given a straight-to-series order by Fox last year. The actor will play the villainous Butch Gilzean, the "deceptively clever and ambitious" second in command to mob boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith).

The show centers on the relationship between Gotham police officer James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and a young Bruce Wayne, with Gordon and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) investigating the murder of Bruce's parents. The series will explore the origin stories of Wayne, Gordon and iconic Gotham City villains such as Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a The Penguin (Robin L. Taylor), Catwoman and The Riddler. Other confirmed cast members include Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth.

Bruno Heller, who created CBS' The Mentalist and HBO's Rome, wrote the pilot script and will executive produce with Danny Cannon, who is directing the pilot. No production schedule was given at this time.

Drew Powell most recently starred in a six-episode arc as Reede Smith on The Mentalist. He has also guest starred on a number of programs such as Castle, Twisted, Major Crimes and Ray Donovan.
