HBO has released an all-new teaser trailer for Game of Thrones as fans eagerly await the final 6 episodes set to debut this spring. We also get a new poster that accompanies this latest sneak peek at the grueling and emotional end to one of the greatest fantasy series ever produced for the small screen.
The poster and teaser are both titled 'Aftermath'. And we get to see what one of the biggest battles has wrought. The new season of Game of Thrones will debut Sunday, April 14. Fans can catch-up (or re-watch) all seven seasons on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners' streaming platforms.
The latest look at Game of Thrones promises that there will be plenty of ice, fire and blood drenched over the proceedings. There are three short teasers ending with the anti-climactic Aftermath trailer. The first two of these sneak peeks uses footage seen in the already released main trailer for season 8. There are a few new lines of dialogue from Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Samwell Tarly (John Bradley).
Their collective words linger ominously, only hinting at the destruction and devastating loss that will soon follow. It is all set against the backdrop of the much-anticipated Battle of Winterfell, which will be the biggest in the show's 8 year history.
Out of the three teasers, Aftermath is the most intriguing, and it doesn't even contain one second of new footage. It runs up and gently attacks the viewer with stark tones, coming on like the 'Crypts of Winterfell' teaser that was released last year. This is just being used as a cool piece of promotional material, and was filmed specifically as a teaser. It may lack any footage from the actual show, but its impact can definitely be felt as it reverberates through the history of this game changing drama. There is plenty of foreboding imagery that will leave you worried for your favorite characters.
The score from Ramin Djawadi is poured over the proceedings as the viewer is taken through the ruined rumble of Winterfell. A battle has waged, and we're seeing The Aftermath, as the title of the spot tells us. It appears as the living have not made it out of this fight alive, their possessions scattered across the landscape. We see Jon Snow's Valyrian sword Longclaw, Tyrion's Hand of the Queen pin, Jaime's golden hand, and Bran Stark's (Isaac Hempstead Wright) wheelchair. Even if this doesn't come to pass, this is some evil foreshadowing.
As the teasers have foretold, there are some very dark days ahead for Game of Thrones fans, and these feature length episodes will bring quite the gut punch for anyone who has been along for the duration of the ride. The heroes are set to take their last stand against the White Walkers this spring. And it's not going to be pretty. Will anyone survive this madness? There are only six episodes left, so all bets on who lives and who dies are off. It couldn't be anyone's number next. These latest teasers and posters come direct from HBO.
