One Olsen twin would have been better than none, but neither Mary-Kate Olsen nor Ashley Olsen accepted the invitation to return for the Netflix revival series Fuller House, which premieres this Friday. As it turns out, at least one of the sisters has a fairly decent reason for opting out of the reunion, which brings back the rest of the cast. The other one, not so much.

It's been known from almost the beginning that, while Tanner sisters DJ and Stephanie would be moving back to San Francisco, Michelle Tanner will not be making her presence known. But the reason behind the twins' decision not to participate have been a little bit hazy. Now, executive producer Bob Boyett has revealed the exact reason why neither girl is coming back. Some of their decision has to do with timing. But it's Ashley Olsen who actually had the best reason for not wanting to return. Boyett explains.

"Ashley said, 'I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don't feel comfortable acting.' Mary-Kate said, it would have to be me because Ash doesn't want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us."

It's been five years since Mary-Kate Olsen last appeared in a movie, going solo for the Beauty and the Beast redo Beastly. Ashley Olsen's last major role was opposite her sister in 2004's New York Minute, which brought the twins to the big screen for the first and last time. That was 12 years ago. So it's understandable why Ashley might be hesitant. Dave Coulier, who returns as Uncle Joey, actually sympathizes with the two young actresses-turned-business moguls. He had this to say about their refusal to participate in the small screen reunion.

"They're family members. But I think they have a different perspective. When we get together and we reminisce, they were babies [at the time]. So they don't share those same memories. I can't really speak for them but I would understand why they don't have the same sentiments that we all do."

When John Stamos heard that the twins weren't coming back, he actually suggested that the show bring in their sister, Elizabeth Olsen. And there was a mild attempt at making this happen, though the actress herself never received the actual invite. In Fuller House, Jodie Sweetin's Stephanie will be seen chatting on the phone with who is presumed to be Michelle on the other end, and the conversation will end with one of Michelle's signature catch phrases. So be sure to look out for that quick Easter egg when Fuller House premieres this Thursday at Midnight, Friday, February 26, only on Netflix.
