Last night, ABC aired the Season 3 finale of Once Upon a Time, "There's No Place Like Home", which revealed that the show is bringing in the character Elsa from Disney's hit animated feature Frozen for Season 4. Take a look at the final scene from last night's finale, with Elsa appearing at the 1:48 mark, then read on to see what series creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis had to say about this beloved character, along with a new image teasing Elsa's arrival.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Horowitz revealed the character will be based on the Frozen movie, not the original fairy tale.

"We are dealing with the world of Frozen. We are honored to be allowed to do it. We loved the movie. We fell in love with it when it came out last year like everyone did, and we want to do our best to do it justice."

Edward Kitsis revealed that the creators and writing staff fell in love with the movie after seeing it in November.

"[What] we loved so much about the character of Elsa was that she was considered a villain but she never really was. She was misunderstood. That, on our show, speaks to us so strongly, that it was a toy we had to play with. It's funny because I see lots of people [saying] 'Oh! Did Disney ask them to do this?' It's quite the opposite. It's actually quite hard to get these characters on the show. It's not like you get a call from Mickey Mouse saying, 'I want you to sell mermaids this week.' It's the opposite. It's very hard to get these. We were very honored that Disney allowed us to take this toy off the shelf and let us play with it."

When asked how involved Disney will be in crafting Elsa's character for the show, Adam Horowitz said it would be similar to the studio's involvement with other characters like Snow White.

"The process I'm guessing it will be similar to how it's been with all these characters. In many ways, it's like using Snow White, using a character from Frozen -- it's just a hundred-year difference. Our scripts and our ideas get vetted by the studio and the network and Disney's brand management people, and I'm sure that process will continue."

They also said that Elsa has not been cast yet, and that fans should expect to see her very early on in Season 4.

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Adam Horowitz teased that there may be other characters from Frozen coming to Storybrooke as well, while revealing that there is a story behind how she ended up in Rumpelstiltskin's vault.

"Yeah - we'd be disappointed if Elsa was the only one we saw, but we're not quite ready yet to tell you who else we may encounter. You know, there's a backstory to how she appeared in Rumpel's vault, and what she's up to now when she's walking out of that farmhouse that we'll get into very quickly, most likely in the premiere. And in doing so, we very much want to honor what came in the movie. We're not trying to redefine the character; what we're trying to do is take this beloved character and fit her into our world."

The creators have two weeks off, and then they will delve into casting and breaking the story for Elsa after the Memorial Day weekend.
