Last month, the El Rey Network debuted the first trailer for From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, along with a poster featuring Eiza González as Santanico Pandamonium, a character originally portrayed by Salma Hayek in the 1996 feature From Dusk Till Dawn. With the series premiere just a few weeks away, the network has released four more posters, featuring the Gecko Brothers (D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz), The Fullers (Robert Patrick, Brandon Soo Hoo and Madison Davenport), Texas Rangers Earl McGraw and Freddie Gonzalez (Don Johnson and Jesse Garcia) and vampire drug kingpin Carlos Madrigal (Wilmer Valderrama). Take a look at these images, then read on for more details on the series from creator Robert Rodriguez.
Fans of the original From Dusk Till Dawn will notice several familiar characters throughout the series, along with aspects of Mayan mythology that is touched on in the movie. While Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino were often approached about doing a sequel or a spin-of, they refused to give up the rights. With this new series airing on a network he co-founded, Robert Rodriguez revealed that he gets to expand this universe in a way he has always wanted do, while keeping creative control.
"(I wanted to) expand the original characters and story lines from Quentin [who wrote the film] into a new version, a new retelling of it - in a way that introduces new characters, different story lines, different trajectories for the characters to really build up this Mayan mythology once they get to the bar in Mexico to help it sustain it for further seasons. That's why I wanted to come do it. One, for the network; and two, I always wanted to go back and explore some of the themes that I hinted at in the first film."
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series debuts Tuesday, March 11 at 9 PM ET on the El Rey Network.
