AMC has revealed the first Fear the Walking Dead season 6 trailer. This comes as something of a surprise, albeit a welcome one for fans of the long-running zombie series. Much like virtually every show right now, production had to halt for an indefinite period of time last month. While that puts the rest of season 6 in doubt, the network still intends to bring the show back to the airwaves this summer, as confirmed in this intense first footage.
The brief trailer for Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 opens up with a shot of Morgan, who is bleeding and surrounded by walkers. Needless to say, things aren't looking good for him. We then transition to some voiceover from the character as a collection of shots with very little context flash across the screen. An oil well erupts. The streets are flooded with the undead. Bullets flying. It is a lot to take in, given the short runtime of the teaser. At the end, a title card is revealed that says, "coming this summer." While no specific release date is provided, it does indeed cement a return sometime before the fall.
Fear the Walking Dead shut down production for at least three weeks in mid-March in the interest of public health, given the ongoing situation the world currently finds itself in. The plan, originally, was to resume sometime this month, but that now seems highly unlikely. With that, it may be hard to finish up the season as originally planned on the production side. AMC may be forced to make some adjustments on the fly. The Walking Dead season 10, for example, had to air its 15th episode as the season finale, as the 16th episode wasn't able to be completed on time to make it to air.
The network's new Walking Dead spin-off, World Beyond, has also had its premiere delayed. This franchise has been hit particularly hard by the shutdown. Not only that, but Fear the Walking Dead season 5, generally speaking, was viewed as a major low point in the eyes of fans and critics. The hope for AMC was to rebound this year. The cast for this season includes Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, Jenna Elfman, Alexa Nisenson, Austin Amelio, Ruben Blades and Karen David.
Fear the Walking Dead debuted in 2015 at a time when the flagship show was still dominating the ratings. Over the past few years, the show has seen a relatively steady decline in viewership, but it remains one of the most-watched shows on cable. Aside from the three live-action shows, AMC is also planning a trilogy of live-action movies that will center on Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes. Be sure to check out the new Fear the Walking Dead season 6 trailer for yourself. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further updates are provided by AMC about the upcoming season, including a return date.
