Euphoria will return with another special episode in January. The hit HBO series has been renewed for season 2 ahead of the Hollywood shutdown that brought the business to a grinding halt earlier this year. Rather than make fans wait longer, the network hatched a plan to produce two specials that would help fill the void. The second of those specials has just been given a poster and a premiere date of January 24.

The special episode is directed by Sam Levinson, who also serves as creator and writer of the series. The episode is titled F*** Anyone Who's Not A Sea Blob and follows Jules, played by Hunter Schafer. It takes place over the Christmas holiday as she reflects on the year. Schafer serves as co-executive producer on the second special episode, which she co-wrote alongside Levinson. The first special episode premiered on December 6 and was given an early streaming premiere on HBO Max. That episode centered on Zendaya's character Rue.

Both of these episodes were produced under strict health and safety guidelines. The industry, as a whole, has struggled to get many productions back up and running following the shutdown. But many movies and TV shows have had success by utilizing intensive safety measures that are intended to keep the cast and crew safe. Though, in some cases, these measures are restrictive. They also come at a cost, which serves to inflate the budget of any project that hopes to press forward right now. But HBO managed to make it work for Euphoria.

The show, which debuted its first season in 2019, follows a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma, and social media. It serves as an adaptation of the Israeli TV show of the same name. The cast also includes Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Algee Smith and Sydney Sweeney. The show took home three Emmys earlier this year, including Zendaya for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

All episodes are written by Sam Levinson who also serves as an executive producer. The series is produced in partnership with A24. Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Tmira Yardeni, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi, Gary Lennon, Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin also serve as executive producers.

Meanwhile, Euphoria season 2 is still in the works and is expected to begin filming early next year. The show was handed an early renewal before the first season had even concluded its run, signaling the network's confidence. No premiere date has been set at this time but it is anticipated for later 2021 or early 2022. The second Euphoria special will air on HBO on January 24 and will also be available to stream on HBO Max. Be sure to check out the poster for the upcoming special from Hunter Schafer's Twitter.
