Netflix has released the new trailer and poster for their upcoming series The End of the F***ing World, the first Netflix original series to debut in 2018. This dramatic comedy is certainly a unique offering for the streaming service, focusing on an unlikely romance between two teenagers, one of whom has more sinister motives for entering into this relationship. The relationship has its ups and downs, as many do, although it all started with a lie.

Based on the award-winning graphic novels, adapted by acclaimed newcomer Charlie Covell, the eight episode series follows James (Alex Lawther, Black Mirror) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden, Penny Dreadful), a self-proclaimed psychopath and a foul-mouthed rebel fed-up with her boring life. The two embark on a roadtrip to find a better life, and escape the impending doom of adulthood. As their chaotic journey unfolds, it becomes apparent that James and Alyssa have crossed a line and have no choice but to take it as far as they can.

This project started off as a 2014 short film that was written and directed by series creator Jonathan Entwistle. While Jessica Barden originated the role of Alyssa, it was Craig Roberts (Submarine) who starred as James in the short, with Alex Lawther taking over the role for this eight episode series. The Netflix show's supporting cast includes Steve Oram, Jayda Mitchell, Wummi Mosaku, Gemma Whelan, Christine Bottomley, Navin Chowdhry, Jonathan Aris and Eileen Davies. Also debuting on the Netflix streaming service on January 5 is the anime series DEVILMAN crybaby and both seasons of BBC America's recently-cancelled series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

The series is based on the graphic novels by Charles S. Forsman, with the series originally debuting in the U.K. on Channel 4 and All 4, with the series debuting on Netflix for the rest of the world in just a few short days. Executive producers on the series include Ed Macdonald, Murray Ferguson, Andy Baker, Petra Fried, Dominic Buchanan and Jonathan Entwistle, who also directed several episodes of the series, with Lucy Tcherniak directing the rest of the episodes, in her TV debut after directing a number of short films.

Along with the new trailer for this Netflix series, we also have the first poster, which you can check out below. Since this will be the first Netflix original series offering this year, it might be the first to announce a renewal, but it remains to be seen how fans will respond to this show, especially given its rather unorthodox characters and subject matter, not to mention the unusual title. Take a look at the trailer and poster for this Netflix series below, as we get ready for the January 5 premiere date.
