In 2017, Disney rebooted their beloved 1987 series DuckTales for a new generation of fans. The rebooted DuckTales brought the globe-trotting adventures of the richest duck in the world, Scrooge McDuck, and his nephews into the 21st century. After getting renewed for two additional seasons, Disney representatives have confirmed in a written statement that the show will end after the upcoming Season 3.

"The talented creative team, led by Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones, have delivered exceptional storytelling with uniquely reimagined characters for three seasons of 75 episodes and more than 15 shorts. While physical production is wrapping, DuckTales continues to be available daily on Disney Channels and Disney+ around the world and fans will get an epic season finale in 2021."

When the DuckTales reboot was originally announced, Disney purists were deeply skeptical that the new show would be able to do justice to the original DuckTales, widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest shows the Mouse Empire ever created.

But the skeptics were won over in the first season of the show itself. It soon became clear that the reboot showrunners were huge fans of the original, and their show featured countless references and throwbacks not just to the original DuckTales, but also the comics by Carl Barks and Don Rosa that kickstarted the entire franchise.

The new DuckTales also expanded on the show's mythology in different ways, most significantly with the introduction of Della Duck, Scrooge's niece, Donald's sister, and mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The backstories for various side characters were also updated and in some cases subverted, ensuring that the DuckTales reboot was not just a retread of the original show.

Going into its third and final season, fans are going to expect the series to end on a truly special note, now that the end of the season means saying goodbye to Scrooge McDuck and his gang. Series developer Frank Angones took to Twitter to affirm his crew's desire to bring the various story threads from the previous two seasons to a satisfying conclusion.

"We've always said that you have to go into every season of a show as if it's your last, leave nothing on the table, and have faith that your team will eventually be able to top it. With that in mind, we crafted Season 3 of DuckTales as one focused on Legacy, on the future of the Duck Family, and what that means, tying into questions and mysteries that were set up way back in the very first episode of our show. So ultimately, we were prepared for this season to be our last."

Based on the 1987 series of the same name, DuckTales stars the voices of David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Kate Micucci, Beck Bennett, Toks Olagundoye, Tony Anselmo, and Paget Brewster. All current seasons are available to stream on Disney+ and there are no current plans to remove the series from the platform. This news originated at Entertainment Weekly.
