The season finale of Disney's DuckTales has been shaping up to be a special hour ever since it was announced that Don Cheadle would be on the show to provide the voice of Donald Duck. Now, there's even more of a reason to get excited because it's been announced that the mysterious Della Duck will be featured and voiced by Criminal Minds actress Paget Brewster. Della has been referred to a lot over the course of the first season of the rebooted series, revealing where she's been for all of these years.
Della Duck is the twin sister of Donald Duck and the mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The character has been a major component of the new DuckTales series as the boys search for her, but she has yet to be seen. Della was originally known as Dumbella in the Disney short Donald's Nephews, where she dumps her three kids with their uncle. It was never explained where she was, but in the comics it was assumed that she was either missing or dead.
The DuckTales season finale, which airs August 18th on the Disney Channel, not only brings Della Duck back, but it also gives her a voice, thanks to Paget Brewster. Throughout the series Huey, Dewey, and Louie discover that their mother used to go on adventures with Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge McDuck. They later find out that Della took Uncle Scrooge's rocket ship, which he was building to surprise Della after the arrival of her boys. She got caught in a cosmic storm and is currently lost in space. A new video from the finale shows Della watching a news video from space where she sees her boys for the first time.
Paget Brewster has officially joined the cast of DuckTales for Season 2 as a recurring character. Hopefully this means that we're going to see a lot more of Della Duck in the future, which would be huge news for Disney fans who have often wondered about the mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. A premiere date has yet to be announced for Season 2, but it will air sometime this year after the cliffhanger of the Season 1 finale.
In addition to Della Duck, the season finale of DuckTales Season 1 also features Donald Duck with a voice that's easy to understand, thanks to an inventive "voicebox." As previously noted, Don Cheadle will voice the iconic Donald Duck in the finale. It isn't clear if the Academy Award nominee will make future appearances on the show, but Cheadle clearly had fun recording his parts, joking that he got into character by not wearing pants.
