BBC One announced today that Season 8 of Doctor Who will debut this August on the U.K. television network, although it isn't known when the season may debut stateside on BBC America. The network has released the first trailer and promo art, teasing the 12th Time Lord, played by Peter Capaldi. Oddly enough, they don't actually show his face, even though the actor has appeared on the 50th Anniversary Special, "The Day Of the Doctor", and the Christmas Special, "The Time of the Doctor". Peter Capaldi will be joined by Jenna Coleman, who plays the Doctor's companion Clara Oswald, in Season 8. Head writer and series creator Steven Moffat wrote the first episode of the season, with Season 8 drafting the second, both of which will be directed by British filmmaker Ben Wheatley (A Field in England).
