Doctor Who Season 11 will be monumental for a number of reasons. But the biggest being the introduction of Jodie Whittaker as the new Time Lord. In the show's long and storied history, this will be the first time an actress has lead the show. And now, thanks to the BBC and the World Cup, we have an idea what that will look like. And it looks pretty exciting.

The BBC has unleashed the first official teaser trailer for Doctor Who Season 11, the next series of all-new episodes sure to enchant and surprise fans like never before. These new Doctor Who adventures will debut this fall, with Jodie Whittaker fully taking over for Peter Capaldi, who said good-bye in this past December's Christmas special.

Jodie Whittaker isn't going at this alone. Oh, no! She's being joined by an all-new cast of characters that include Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill. Also popping up in the series for a recurring role is Sharon D Clarke. Chris Chibnall is the new head writer and executive producer, taking over from Steven Moffat. This fact is almost as big of a deal as having the first female Time Lord, as Moffat has been with the show since it's resurrection in 2005.

Doctor Who, which began broadcasting on BBC America in 2005, follows the Doctor, an alien from a race called the Time Lords whose home planet is Gallifrey, and is created by Sydney Newman (The Avengers), and Executive Produced by Russell T. Davies (Torchwood), Julie Gardner (Torchwood), Steven Moffat (Sherlock), Phil Collinson (Coronation Street), Piers Wenger (How I Live Now), Beth Willis (Doctor Who Confidential), Brian Minchin (Wizards vs. Aliens), Caroline Skinner (Our Girl), and Mal Young (Desperate Scousewives).

Peter Capaldi was on the show for three seasons before the arrival of Jodie Whittaker, and he gave fans quite a run. Now we're all in for something completely different with Season 11. This first look at the upcoming episodes premiered during the The France v. Croatia World Cup game and then was immediately available on BBC's Youtube.

The first teaser trailer comes in advance of Doctor Who's big presentation at this year's annual San Diego Comic-Con. The show will be bringing an epic panel to the convention center with Jodie Whittaker and others in tow. There's a good chance that an extended trailer or various scenes from the first episode will be shown off during the presentation. Those not lucky enough to be going do get a special look here. And it's likely that everything from SDCC will be released to the general public immediately.

So, here's our first real look at Jodie Whittaker in action as the new Time Lord in Doctor Who Season 11. Strap yourself in and take off on the adventure of a lifetime. This fall, only on the BBC and BBC America. It's going to be fun.
