Last night, after celebrating the Christmas holiday, fans tuned in to the new Docor Who Christmas special, entitled The Return of Doctor Mysterio. Season 10 is expected to premiere sometime in April 2017, and today we have a sneak peek at these all-new episodes, including footage of the Time Lord's incoming companion, the hilarious Bill Potts, played by actress Pearl Mackie. As you can see in this footage, Bill is quite the exuberant companion, a student who "serves chips," before becoming the Time Lord's latest companion.

This trailer, which debuted on BBC's YouTube, comes eight months after a video first introduced Pearl Mackie's Bill as the doctor's new companion. Pearl Mackie replaces former Companion Jenna Coleman, who exited the series last season. It was originally announced that Bill will debut on the Christmas Special, but that didn't happen. Coleman took an early leave so she could star in the ITV drama series Victoria, where she will star as the title character. Pearl Mackie is certainly new to the world of Doctor Who, and this show promises to mark a huge leap forward in her young career.

Pearl Mackie has largely been known as a stage actress, although she made her feature film debut with a small role in 2013's Svengali, and had a guest-starring role on a 2014 episode of Doctors. There still is much we don't know about Pearl Mackie's Bill Potts, but the actress reportedly beat out 70 other actresses for the coveted role. She is best known to UK theater audiences for her West End appearance in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. This trailer also gives us a glimpse at another character who is returning in Doctor Who Season 10, which should get fans excited.

We reported in June that Matt Lucas is returning to reprise his role of Nardole, who previously appeared in the Christmas special "The Husbands of River Song." Nardole is a member of the human colony at Mendorax Dellora, who worked for River Song (Alex Kingston). Stephanie Hyam will play a guest cast role in the new series and is recognized for her performance as Lily Clarke in Jekyll & Hyde. She's also appeared in Peaky Blinders, Murdered by My Boyfriend and Sherlock.

The opening episode of season 10 is written by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Lawrence Gough. Doctor Who Season 10 will be the last for Steven Moffatt, with Chris Chibnall taking over as the showrunner in The second episode in the new series has been crafted by award winning screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Block 2 writers are Sarah Dollard (writer of acclaimed episode Face the Raven) and Mike Bartlett (multi award winning Doctor Foster). Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales produced drama for BBC One.
