The latest full-length trailer for Matt Groening's new Netflix series Disenchantment premiered at San Diego Comic-Con this evening at it's our best look yet and the animated comedy. Bean is the main character, voiced by Abbi Jacobson, and we see her walk away from a marriage after a pretty dark and bizarre incident. From there, we see a journey of independence in medieval times. Bean is joined by her funny companion, Elfo, and her suave personal demon, Luci, who wants to eradicate diseases and replace them all with far more dangerous and deadly ones.

Allie Goertz from MAD Magazine and the Everything's Coming Up Simpson podcast moderated the Disenchantment panel discussion with creator Matt Groening, showrunner Josh Weinstein and cast Eric Andre, Nat Faxon, John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, and David Herman along with Claudia Katz from Rough Draft animation studio. The group was having a lot of fun promoting the new Netflix show, with most of the cast just happy to work with Matt Groening. Billy West has worked with The Simpsons creator for years, most notably as Fry from Futurama.

Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein wanted a princess in Disenchantment, but they did not want the traditional Disney princess, though the Bean character stared that way. Instead, they went with a stronger woman, but didn't want it to be too cliché. In the end, we have Bean, the imperfect, hard-drinking princess with some weird best friends. Weinstein had this to say.

"It used to be like the Disney princess, but also, I think a lot of writers make the mistake too of going the other way--it's like, She's totally kick-ass and she's perfect. So, we wanted to bust that trope and actually make, what if the princess were just like, a realistic 19-year-old young woman?"

Matt Groening's influence is all over Disenchantment, with a very familiar design with a new animation spin. However, the show comes off a lot different than The Simpsons or Futurama. The 10-episode adult animated comedy fantasy series launched on Netflix, August 17th. The latest Comic-Con trailer gives a more in-depth look at Bean and her struggles to become independent, as opposed to the first teaser that we saw in which her dad insinuated that she was ugly.

In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland. Bean, who likes to drink a lot will get into some adventures on purpose with Elfo and Luci, but along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools. There's already a lot to take in, but it's easy to see that Disenchantment will be a big hit for Netflix upon its release next month. It already has a built-in audience of super Matt Groening fans, who are still hoping for that Futurama reboot. The wait for the show is now less than a month away, but you can check out the San Diego Comic-Con trailer below, thanks to the Netflix YouTube channel.
