Could a Dexter revival happen in the future? A lot would need to happen in order to make that become a reality, but at the very least, Michael C. Hall is open to the idea. In the modern age, unlike Dexter Morgan's victims, TV shows are never really dead. Revivals of once-popular TV shows are happening all the time and with a handful of years between viewers and the series finale, maybe it's time to bring Dexter back to life.

Michael C. Hall recently spoke a bit about the potential for a revival in an interview. It's not the first time he's stated his willingness to return, but he also makes it clear that there are no plans currently. And Hall also goes out of his way to defend the very unpopular series finale, which is part of the reason the stars would truly have to align in exactly the right way for this to actually happen. Here's what the actor had to say about it.

"Every time I'm asked about this I say, 'never say never.' The next thing I know there's an announcement on the internet saying 'he's going to do it again.' The way that show ended gave no sense of closure for people and a lot of questions unanswered. He seems to be in this self-imposed exile, he certainly didn't ride off into the sunset. His sister died. It left a gnarly knot in some viewers' stomachs. I stand by how that 8th season ended. He has a real connection to people, and all those people are compromised or destroyed in some way. For it to be all tidied up after that would have not been honest. For him to simulate his own death and extricate himself from the context of his life made sense to me. As far as any more of that happening, it's possible."

While Michael C. Hall does make a point to defend the Dexter season 8 finale, he also points out that there are a lot of unanswered questions. To say the least, many fans weren't at all happy with the way the show wrapped up, despite the fact that Hall is defending it. So bringing the show back for one final season, or perhaps even a one-off movie like HBO is doing with Deadwood, might not be a bad idea. Hall further explained that some "possibilities" have been explored, but nothing has ever materialized.

"There have been different possibilities that have come up. They haven't felt worth doing. But there's still something potentially there. But there are no immediate plans to do that."

TV revivals are hot right now. And Showtime needs programming just as badly as any other premium cable network. Especially with Homeland coming to an end. So why not try and make a Dexter revival happen? If they can cook up the right story, there really doesn't seem to be any downside, especially since Michael C. Hall is game. For now at least, there are no official plans. This news originated with The Daily Beast.
