After the fourth Marvel Netflix series Iron Fist debuts next March, this Marvel character will join forces with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage to form The Defenders, which is believed to start production at the end this year. Today we have word that Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page from Daredevil and Simone Missick's Misty Knight from Luke Cage will also return in The Defenders. This news comes just a few weeks after we learned who the main villain will be.
During New York Comic Con earlier this month, all four of The Defenders, Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) assembled for the fist time. The studio also confirmed that Sigourney Weaver is playing the main villain, although her character's identity has not yet been confirmed. Marvel confirmed the inclusion of Karen Page and Misty Knight through a brief video on the show's official Twitter.
Before the NYCC announcement, there had been a report that claimed the main villain in The Defenders would be Mephisto, but that was never confirmed. That rumor claimed this villain would help set up the next slate of superhero shows, such as Blade, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight, which have all been rumored as the next Marvel/Netflix series. The streaming service hasn't confirmed that report yet, but this source claims that Iron Fist will help introduce the "supernatural" element into the TV side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel and Netflix haven't confirmed a premiere date for The Defenders yet, but this series has been confirmed to come before new seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones. After The Defenders debuts, which is expected to happen in late 2017, fans will be treated to Daredevil Season 3, Jessica Jones Season 2 and The Punisher spin-off, which is currently in production. It hasn't been confirmed if The Punisher will be seen in The Defenders or not.
In related news, Luke Cage star Mike Colter put in an appearance at Los Angeles Comic Con this weekend, where he revealed that the Heroes for Hire comic book story will eventually be addressed in the Marvel Netflix shows. In the comics, both Luke Cage and Iron Fist formed a business known as Heroes for Hire, with the help of lawyer Jeryn Hogarth, played by Carrie-Anne Moss on Jessica Jones, where they charged a fee to citizens for their superhero services. Here's what Mike Colter had to say about Heroes for Hire below, while hinting that he's about to go back to New York soon to start shooting The Defenders.
"Finn Jones - I was just hanging out with him yesterday, so I'm going back to New York to start filming [The Defenders]. We're going to be getting ready to do Heroes for Hire eventually. We're going to do it."
Earlier this month, new set photos from The Punisher revealed that Deborah Ann Woll will be returning in this series as Karen Page, but it hasn't been confirmed how large or small her role is on the show. The actress was seen sitting on a park bench and having a conversation with Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle in these images. Take a look at this brief video which confirms Karen Page and Misty Knight will be back for The Defenders.
