The cast of DC's Legends of Tomorrow is getting a bit bigger in season 6. As revealed during the show's DC FanDome panel, Lisseth Chavez has just been added as a series regular. Chavez will play a new character, Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz. Chavez was previously known for her role as Officer Vanessa Rojas on NBC's Chicago, P.D. Chavez has also starred on shows such as Murder in the First, The Fosters and The OA.

DC FanDome day 2 is taking place today. The news was revealed during the show's panel, which included series stars Caity Lotz, Nick Zano, Matt Ryan, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Amy Louise Pemberton and Shayan Sobhian. They were joined by executive producers Phil Klemmer, Keto Shimizu and Grainne Godfree. Regarding the character of Spooner, Godfree had this to say.

"She is a young Latinx woman from Texas who was kidnapped by aliens and has kind of got a thirst for vengeance. And so she's going to come up with the ship and, you know, she's not going to be the lovable losers that we normally have. She's going to be someone who is pretty tough and gives it to the other Legends, and they're gonna all have to react to her, and I think it's going to throw them off their feet a little bit."

Spooner is described as tough and self-sufficient. She lives off the grid and devises tech to detect and defend against space aliens. Some might call her paranoid but she calls it being prepared. She is a survivor of a childhood alien encounter and now believes that she has the ability to communicate telepathically with aliens. This makes her the perfect recruit for the Legends who will be hunting down extraterrestrials who have been displaced throughout history in season 6. Co-showrunner Keto Shimizu added the following.

"If everyone who joins the ship is our best friends immediately, I mean, where's the story? You've got to earn your spot in the family."

Legends of Tomorrow season 5 saw the team tracking down the Loom of Fate in order to bring back their slain comrades. Now, they must save history from a new foe like none they have ever encountered in the past or future; space aliens. Sara is abducted by a ruthless alien, making the new mission personal. It will take more than the combined powers of the Legends to save the world again. That's where Spooner Cruz comes in. A woman uniquely qualified to help them take down these intergalactic foes.

Other ArrowVerse (now known as The CWVerse} shows returning next season include The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning and Batwoman. Superman & Lois will also be kicking off its first season. Legends of Tomorrow season 6 is set to return in 2021 on The CW but no premiere date has been set yet. We'll be sure to keep you posted as further details are made available.
