Dave is coming back for season 2. FXX has officially renewed the hit comedy, which stars rapper Lil Dicky, for a second season. The announcement comes not long after season 1 wrapped up its run on April 29, but the quick turnaround doesn't come as much of a surprise either. The series finished its initial run as the most-watched comedy in the history of FX Networks.

During its first season, Dave averaged a total of 5.32 million viewers per episode across all platforms. Episodes were made available on Hulu the day after they aired on FXX, which certainly helped matters. This was part of Disney's FX on Hulu program, which launched earlier this year, making FX Networks programming far more available via the streaming service. The previous record holder for FX was Donal Glover's Atlanta, which averaged 5.2 million viewers per episode. Taking to Instagram, Dave Burd, aka Lil Dicky, said the following.

"Thank you for a record breaking rookie year. Season 2 mode activated"

Lil Dicky, known for songs like Lemme Freak and Freaky Friday, has had an incredibly successful career in music up to this point. Dave is loosely based on his life. Dave Burd and Jeff Schaffer co-created the series for FXX. Nick Grad, President, Original Programming, FX Entertainment, had this to say in a statement.

"Co-creators Dave Burd and Jeff Schaffer, along with their entire creative team have delivered one of television's best comedies series while becoming FX's most-watched comedy ever. That is an extraordinary achievement for Dave, the cast and crew as they teamed to make a memorable and brilliant season of television."

Dave centers on a neurotic man in his late twenties who has convinced himself that he's destined to be one of the best rappers of all time. He must convince his closest friends to help him so that he can convince the world. The cast includes Taylor Misiak, Andrew Santino, GaTa, Travis Bennett and Christine Ko. Justin Bieber, Young Thug, Trippie Redd and Kourtney Kardashian all served as guest stars in season 1. Lil Dicky had this to say in a statement.

"We set out to make something special and it's so gratifying to see the response this show has gotten. This was my first rodeo, so I'm super excited to take another crack at it now that I've got some experience making television. It really feels like the sky is the limit with this show. I look forward to raising the bar even higher next year."

Kevin Hart executive produces the series via his Hartbeat Productions company. Saladin Patterson, Greg Mottola, Marty Bowen, Mike Hertz, Scooter Braun, James Shin and Scott Manson also serve as executive producers. There is no word on an expected premiere date for Dave season 2 just yet, but FXX intends to release it sometime in 2021. We'll be sure to keep you posted as further details are made available.
