The Oscar-winning 80s classic Das Boot has been turned into an epic miniseries for Hulu. Today, we have a look at the first trailer for this thrilling WWII adventure. It has also been announced that the miniseries is heading to the streaming service in its entirety starting June 17.

During the Autumn of 1942, in occupied France, U-612 is now ready for its maiden voyage, preparing to head into the increasingly brutal warfare with its young crewmen, including the new captain, Klaus Hoffmann. As the 40 young men take on their first mission, they struggle with the cramped and claustrophobic conditions of life underwater. Their personalities are pushed to the limit as tensions rise and loyalties begin to shatter.

Hulu will launch the international hit series Das Boot from Bavaria Fiction, Sky Deutschland and Sonar Entertainment. A story of choices and survival, Das Boot explores the emotional torment of life during World War Two, and the brutal reality of living within a senseless war.

Inspired by the Oscar and Golden Globe nominated masterpiece by Wolfgang Petersen and Lothar-Günther Buchheim's bestselling novel, Das Boot, filmed in Munich, La Rochelle, Prague and Malta, brings the senseless reality of World War Two to life with two storylines running parallel on land and sea.

With dialogue authentically switching between English, German and French, Das Boot features an international cast from Germany, France, UK and the US, including Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones), Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), James D'Arcy (Agent Carter), Thierry Frémont (Juste un regard), August Wittgenstein (The Crown), Rainer Bock (Inglourious Basterds), Rick Okon (Tatort), Leonard Scheicher (Finsterworld), Robert Stadlober (Summer Storm), Franz Dinda (The Cloud) and Stefan Konarske (The Young Karl Marx).

Tony Saint (Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley, The Interceptor) and Johannes W. Betz (Der Tunnel, Die Spiegel-Affäre) are the head writers. Das Boot is directed by Andreas Prochaska whose credits include Das finstere Tal (The Dark Valley) and Das Wunder von Kärnten (A Day for a Miracle), which was awarded the International Emmy. Executive Producers are Moritz Polter (Spotless, Crossing Lines), Oliver Vogel (Dengler, SOKO Stuttgart) and Jan S. Kaiser (Hotel Lux, Brecht) for Bavaria Fiction; Marcus Ammon and Frank Jastfelder for Sky Deutschland; and Tom Lesinski and David Ellender for Sonar Entertainment.

The original Das Boot was originally released in the States in 1981. In that movie, A German submarine patrols the Atlantic Ocean during World War II, manned by a crew that must contend with tense conflicts and long stretches of confined boredom. While war correspondent Werner (Herbert Grönemeyer) observes day-to-day life aboard the U-boat, the grizzled captain (Jürgen Prochnow) struggles to maintain his own motivation as he attempts to keep the ship's morale up in the face of fierce battles, intense storms and dwindling supplies. This first look at the new miniseries comes from Hulu streaming service.
