Netflix has unveiled a brand new trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. This is one of the most highly-anticipated projects the streaming service has coming down the pipeline in 2019. Through a collaboration with The Jim Henson Company, and director Louis Leterrier, Netflix has crafted a long-awaited return to one of Henson's most cherished creations in the form of a big-budget prequel series. This latest trailer shows just how massive and stunning a result the fruits of their labor has produced.

The trailer kicks off with some truly gorgeous landscape shots before diving into the story at play. The first footage was really more of a teaser. We get a much better sense of the story and the overall scope (which is massive) of the series. Essentially, the Skeksis are using some powerful forces to manipulate the Dark Crystal, which is putting the land of Thra at risk of succumbing to the Darkening. It all builds to an epic journey. A fight between good and evil that looks as epic as The Lord of the Rings, but with puppets instead of people.

It's hard not to be impressed by the craft on display here. While there is certainly some CGI augmentation going on, it's incredibly clear that Netflix and The Jim Henson Company went through painstaking lengths to make sure this is all done as practically as can be. The trailer gives a true sense of how physical and real all of this is. It's hard not to wonder just how much money Netflix shelled out for this. But they're outspending every studio in Hollywood and, as a result, we get something like this, which surely never could have been made by a traditional studio.

Aside from the impressive visuals, Netflix has also assembled a top-notch voice cast. The cast is led bit a trio of new characters Rian (Taron Egerton), Brea (Anya Taylor Joy), Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel). Other Gelflings are voiced by Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong and Alicia Vikander. Harvey Fierstein, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg and Mark Hamill will voice Skeksis. It was also recently revealed that Lena Headey, Benedict Wong, Awkwafina and Sigourney Weaver round out the ensemble.

Jim Henson originally released The Dark Crystal in 1982 and has since gone on to become one of his most treasured works. Critics who have screened the first episode of the series have, on the whole, seem very impressed. The first season will consist of 10 episodes. It isn't yet clear if there is a possibility for a season 2, or if this will be a one-and-done venture. Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance arrives on August 30.
