The first teaser trailer for Daredevil season 3 has made its way online. As has become a tradition of sorts, the teaser was included at the very end of the recently released Iron Fist season 2 on Netflix. Those who stuck around after the credits of the final episode were rewarded with the return of Matt Murdock following his turn in The Defenders last year. If you thought the first two seasons of Daredevil were dark, it looks like the darkest stuff is waiting around the corner.

This teaser is just 30-seconds in length and raises quite a few more questions than it answers. What's inescapably clear is that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock has seen better days and he's been pushed to his limit. Where once we had a man who thought truth and justice could be found in the light of day, we now have a man who has seen enough ugliness in the world to think otherwise. The footage features Matt in a familiar confession booth sounding like he's about to go full-on Batman in season 3.

"I once believed that justice could be found in a court of law, and in the light of day, but I was fooling myself. Darkness only responds to darkness. The truth is, I'd rather die as the devil than live as Matt Murdock."

Some parallels have always existed between the Man Without Fear and The Dark Knight, but the way he's talking here makes it sound as though his parents were gunned down in an alleyway. All he's missing is the inherited billions and his eyesight. Beyond the darkness that has crept into Matt's mind, little else is known about what we're going to see in season 3.

When last we left our hero at the end of The Defenders, pretty much everyone thought he was dead. As the audience found out, Hell's Kitchen's devoted vigilante did indeed escape the miniseries with his life. A recent motion poster released by Marvel hinted that there are those who are on the lookout for Mr. Murdock, despite the appearance that he had died. How exactly he comes back into the fold and what it is that turns him down this very ugly-sounding path remains to be seen.

What we know for sure is that Vincent D'Onofrio will be back as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, and that actor Wilson Bethel has been brought on board to play Bullseye, one of the hero's greatest foes from the comics. Last year it was indicated that the Born Again storyline would influence the narrative this season, but it doesn't sound like this is going to be a direct adaptation of Frank Miller's beloved work. Daredevil season 3 is set to arrive on Netflix streaming before the end of the year. However, the streaming service has yet to set an exact premiere date. We're sure to learn more when Daredevil hits NYCC in October. Be sure to check out the new season's first teaser trailer for yourself below.
