Daredevil season 3 will be making its way to Netflix in 2018. This news comes as something of a surprise, but surely a welcome one for those who enjoy the Hell's Kitchen corner of the Marvel universe. It had previously been suspected that Charlie Cox would be making his way back to the streaming service as Matt Murdock for a third season early next year, but Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed recently that we're not going to have to wait quite so long to see the blind hero dish out his particular brand of justice once more.

This reveal came as part of Netflix's quarter 2 earnings report. Toward the end of the report, Ted Sarandos was addressing what the streaming service had coming down the pipeline for the rest of 2018 and slipped in the Daredevil reveal. Here's what he had to say about all-new Daredevil episodes.

"In the short term, we've got new seasons coming up, in the second half of this year, of Orange is the New Black, Ozark, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Narcos, the finale of House of Cards, the follow-up series to Making a Murderer."

So there you have it. Unfortunately, there aren't any other details to go on for now, but it's not tough to figure out, at least roughly, when we'll see season 3 pop up. Iron Fist season 2 has been given a September 7 release date, as revealed during San Diego Comic-Con. That means Netflix likely wouldn't release the new season of Daredevil until at least November, if not December. Maybe they'll be giving us a little binge-worthy Christmas gift this holiday season? It wouldn't be a bad way to cap off a massive year for the company.

Assuming this sticks, it will be a record for the Marvel shows on Netflix. Jessica Jones season 2 and Luke Cage season 2 have already premiered. With Iron Fist season 2 imminent and Daredevil season 3 pending, that means every single Defender, four new seasons of Marvel shows in total, will have premiered this year. That raises some questions about what we'll see coming our way in 2019. The Punisher season 2 has been given the green light and should be dropping next year. But will Netflix go from releasing four new seasons this year to just one next year? Probably not. Jessica Jones season 3 has also been given the go-ahead but there's no word just yet on when filming will get underway.

Daredevil season 2 debuted in March 2016, so Matt Murdock is due for some more screen time, even though he was featured in The Defenders miniseries last year. The upcoming season will see him doing battle with one of his greatest foes in the form of Bullseye, who will reportedly be portrayed by Wilson Bethel. We'll be sure to keep you posted as additional details, such as a release date or trailer for Daredevil season 3, are made available. This news was previously reported by Comicbook.com.
