Daniel Gillies has signed on as the third and final lead in The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals for The CW Network.

The actor will reprise his role as Elijah from The Vampire Diaries, with Joseph Morgan returning as Klaus, and Phoebe Tonkin back to play Haley. The spin-off will keep the same premise of two vampire brothers (Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies) and a girl, with one major difference. This time around, the girl, Haley, is a werewolf.

We first reported on the new series earlier this month, when The CW Network announced plans to debut the spin-off as an episode of The Vampire Diaries on April 25. The show will be set in New Orleans, following Klaus as he reunites with the evil Marcel, a character who has yet to be cast. The Originals are the first vampires to have ever walked the Earth, with this trio of characters first appearing in Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries.

The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec wrote the pilot script and is executive producing with Gina Girolamo and Leslie Morgenstein.
