If you're heading to Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego this week, there's a good chance you'll see Gotham-related items spread out all over the convention. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. Television will be distributing 5,000 copies of the fictional newspaper Gotham Chronicle to fans. Take a look at the first issue cover below, which highlights the murder of Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) parents, featuring a new image of James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue).
The network has also launched the GothamChronicle.com website, which features a number "news stories" on characters such as James Gordon, Harvey Bullock, Edward Nygma/The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Camren Bicondova). There is even a story about Gotham mob boss Carmine Falcone, a character played by Tom Wilkinson in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. Could this be our first hint that he is showing up on Gotham? Nothing has been confirmed yet, but stay tuned.
Last week, we also reported that Gotham will be bringing a zip line experience and Uber cars to San Diego as a part of their big marketing push at Comic-Con. San Diego mayor Kevin L. Faulconer will be the first to partake in the zip line, which runs between the Hilton Bayfront hotel and the San Diego Convention Center. Uber users can select the Gotham police car on the Uber app's "slider," to take a ride in a "cop car" where they can also watch exclusive content from the show.
Here's what Shannon Ryan, Fox executive VP marketing and communications, had to say about these Gotham initiatives in a statement.
"When we are in the exploration phase, we always come at these stunts from a fan perspective and try to think of ideas that we all would find engaging, exciting, cool and fun. With Gotham, we felt that the city is such an important character within the show that it would great if we could build out an experience that could immerse fans in that fascinating world - and the urban zip line was the perfect way to deliver on that. For the Uber promotion, we know everyone at Comic-Con is looking for ways to get around all the events in San Diego and thought there was no cooler way for fans to be able to show up to panels and parties than in a Gotham City police car - for free. Comic-Con is a very important piece of the marketing campaign for a show like Gotham. It really is the perfect opportunity to make that direct connection with those important fans, start to create that conversation with them and build that buzz around the show as we head into the final stretch before the September launch."
Fox will also be distributing over 100,000 lenticular tags on lanyards that will be distributed both at the Fox booth and on the street outside of the convention center.
Gotham will have its world premiere of the pilot episode on Saturday, July 26 in Hall H during Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's three-hour panel that starts at 8 PM.
