During its upfront presentation today, FreeForm unveiled the first trailer and official photo from their highly-anticipated Marvel TV series Cloak & Dagger, with the 10-episode series slated to debut in early 2018. The network still hasn't issued an official premiere date quite yet, after this Cloak & Dagger TV show was delayed, originally slated to premiere sometime this year. This series marks Marvel's first foray into the young-adult-oriented network FreeForm, which could have all the makings of a big hit for the network.

FreeForm first issued a straight to series order for this Marvel TV show back in April 2016, completely skipping the pilot phase entirely. This bold move did make sense, since this story is perfectly matched for the network's target audience of 14-34, with some even wondering if the show would be paired with the network's current hit, Shadowhunters. The network was even developing a version of this show back in 2010, when the network was called ABC Family, but it never came to fruition. Now that the network has re-branded itself, these Marvel characters could be the perfect fit for the network's audience, and could be the first of many collaborations with Marvel.

This new series centers on Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. This new trailer, courtesy of Marvel Entertainment, shows that Tandy can emit light daggers, while Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging. In the Marvel Comics, Tyrone/Cloak can transport himself through a "dimension of darkness," while Dagger's light daggers have the ability to either replenish life and heal, or take away life as well.

The network has ordered 10 one-hour episodes slated to debut early 2018. The Cloak & Dagger characters were created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan, first appearing in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 in March 1982. These characters would often be seen with Peter Parker, and they have also fought with the X-Men, The Runaways, Doctor Strange, Captain America and as part of the Secret Avengers group in the Civil War comic book story arc. The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Joe Pokaski (Underground, Heroes) serves as showrunner and executive producer; Jeph Loeb (The Punisher, The Defenders), Marvel's head of Television, and Jim Chory (The Punisher, The Defenders) also serve as executive producers. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) directed the first episode.

Andrea Roth will portray Melissa Bowen, Tandy's mom, who is the eternal optimist despite the struggles to adapt to her new existence. While complex and emotionally composed, her love for her daughter burns bright. Tyrone's mother, Adina Johnson, will be played by Gloria Reuben. Mrs. Johnson invests every aspect of her being into giving her son the life she believes he deserves. But she props up and protects Tyrone so much she almost forgets to love him. Miles Mussenden will star as Tyrone's father, Michael Johnson, who trudges through his desk job to keep his family safe and happy. Mr. Johnson is a working-class father does what he can to ensure his son will grow up to be a great man. Liam will be played by Carl Lundstedt, a salt-of-the-earth townie who operates as Tandy's partner in crime while moonlighting as her boyfriend. But underneath his rough-around-the-edges appearance, Liam has big dreams. Portrayed by James Saito, Dr. Bernard Sanjo has been an emotional cornerstone in Tyrone's life; they have a most unusual relationship. J.D. Evermore rounds out the cast as Detective Connors, who is a contradiction of a man embracing an intimidating persona that overcompensates for a secret he keeps close to the vest.
