A new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina clip has been released, introducing audiences to the latest, creepy version of Salem the cat. Netflix is clearly going for a dark feel for the series, which is based on the comics of the same name. We've seen some pretty intense scenes in previously released trailers, but now we're seeing that the little black cat Salem may have a lot more going on than previously thought, and it's pretty frightening.
This short clip from the upcoming Netflix original series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina features lead actress Kiernan Shipka as she hears a mysterious and dark voice calling for her after she notices scratches at her window frame. Suddenly, a demonic creature teases itself from behind the furniture, growling, "I heard you calling in the woods... and I came." This dark presence then disappears from sight as it slithers its sketchy tail. It appears to Sabrina as a black cat. Meet Salem, the crotchety feline fans all know and love. Sabrina picks him up and everything seems okay... for now.
This is a far cry from the Salem that many know from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The wisecracking puppet of a cat is no more and is receiving yet another origin story for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, though we haven't learned about it yet. He won't be someone who was turned into a cat for leaving a witch at the altar after getting her pregnant, nor will he be turned into a cat for an attempt to take over the world. Instead, it looks like Salem will have a much darker story that fits into the tone of the upcoming Netflix series.
It's currently unknown just exactly what Salem was before he turns into the black cat in the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina clip. It's also unknown if Sabrina will be able to fully trust Salem, even though without question or even skipping a beat, she picks up the little black cat and cuddles him in her arms, seconds after it was a spooky demonic figure. Could Salem have used a spell, or is this just how the new series is going to work? Whatever the case may be, it's intriguing and sure to leave viewers questing Salem's origins.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premieres October 26th, exclusively on Netflix, which is just in time for some Halloween binge watching to go down. The new series is a Riverdale spin-off and will not currently see a crossover event, though producers would like it to happen at some point in the near future. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina looks like it is taking a lot of its overall tone from the comics, though it's already going through some pretty drastic changes as far as storylines and characters, like Salem are concerned. The good news is that we don't have to wait too much longer to see the show.
