The first poster for Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been released online, giving us a good look both at the lead actress of the series Kiernan Shipka and at the tone we should expect to see. Releasing in late October, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is both a Riverdale spin-off and a reboot of the hit '90s series Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The poster is rather simple, carrying some rather haunting tones, while also being cute and bright. It features Sabrina over a birthday cake with a number of red candles. The edge of the cake is melting with incredibly dark frosting that looks like blood, while Sabrina has horns protruding from behind her head, marking the arrival of Baphomet. It's an eerie contrast that we can expect to see more of in the show itself.

The clever line "Happy Birthday, Witch," is put near the top of the poster, adding a bit of bright comedy to the mix of the poster, opposing the satanic star that is serving as the dot on the "i" in "Sabrina" at the bottom of the poster. These darker details tell us that this will be a bit edgier of an iteration of Sabrina than we have seen before, but the brighter details tell us that it will still be the same Sabrina the Teenage Witch that fans have come to love since she first debuted in Archie Comics in 1962.

It has previously been teased that the new Sabrina series will be darker than we have previously seen. It wouldn't even be that similar to Riverdale, and instead may have similar tones to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which proved itself to be a much more successful series at the time than Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Perhaps this darker revival of Sabrina will be the kick that the character has needed for some time, hopefully giving her a number of seasons of dark, demented success. Here is Netflix's description of the upcoming series.

Tonally in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature - half-witch, half-mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

While the show will more than likely still carry some brighter and campy elements, as the poster teased a bit of with its pun, we can assume that the majority of the series will be on the same, haunting level as The Exorcist, as Netflix themselves put it. Surely, this will not be a show that any fan of horror/fantasy drama series will want to miss.

The /chilling-adventures-of-sabrina-release-date-netflix-premiere/first ten episodes of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be released on Netflix on October 26th, just in time for Halloween, with hopefully more to come after that. The series is set to star Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Davis, Richard Coyle, and Miranda Otto. Hopefully we will get a trailer for this upcoming series sometime soon, but in the meantime, be sure to check out the new poster below.
