With the hit CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother winding down its nine-season run, the network is in talks to develop a spin-off series entitled How I Met Your Father.

How I Met Your Mother co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are co-writing the pilot script with Emily Spivey, who created the NBC series Up All Night. The show will follow a group of female friends in New York City, one of whom is trying to find her future husband.

There is talk that the characters may even be introduced in the How I Met Your Mother series finale, and that MacLaren's Pub, the How I Met Your Mother characters' regular hangout, may serve as a bridge between both shows. However, the premise is not tied to Ted (Josh Radnor), Marshall (Jason Segel), Robin (Cobie Smulders), Lily (Alyson Hannigan) or Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) from the original show.

The writers will all serve as executive producers, although it isn't known if this series is being crafted for a possible Fall 2014 debut or not.
