Amazon Prime video debuted the official full trailer for Carnival Row and it has us transported into a Neo-Victorian fantasy love story. Starring Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean alum Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), the new series premieres on Amazon Prime on August 30, and has already been renewed for a second season.

Carnival Row shifts the fantasy genre out of the medieval-based realms and into the neo-Victorian city of Burgue. Mythical creatures are gathering in the city after fleeing war in their homeland. The growing number of supernatural beings is creating dangerous tensions with the human citizens as they struggle to coexist. The refugees must struggle to survive while forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom.

Cara Delevingne plays a faerie refugee in Burgue named Vignette Stonemoss. The trailer gives us our first long look into Stonemoss' dangerous love affair with human detective, Rycroft Philostrate (Orlando Bloom), who is tasked with investigating a string of murders that are threatening the shaky peace between species.

While the brief teasers focused on presenting the world to us, the full trailer gives us a glimpse into the forbidden romance between our two leads, showing Stonemoss, with a knife to Philostrate's throat as she berates him for leaving her "in the ashes of [her] homeland." Carnival Row presents an allegorical city of immigrants who feel that the humans, "will never accept [them]."

All while a supernatural threat looms over them all, something the characters assure us is "neither man nor fae." Loaded with political strife, steam-punk elements, intriguing visuals and romance, the Amazon series appears to have something to say. In Philostrate's words:

"A man is no better than pain he's caused the people he loves and what he's willing to do to set it right"

Rounding out the cast is David Gyasi as Argeus, as a wealthy faun who defies the social order by moving into a human neighborhood; Karla Crome as Tourmaline, a faerie poet who was driven from her war-torn homeland; Indira Varma as Piety Breakspear, matriarch of a powerful family that rules the city of The Burgue; and Tamzin Merchant as Imogen Spurnose, who sees in Argeus a chance to turn around her aristocratic family's fading fortunes.

The Amazon Original Series is produced by Legendary Television and written and executive produced by showrunner Rene Echevarria, whose television background includes Star TrekTeen WolfCastle and Medium. Paul McGuigan (Victor FrankensteinLuke CageSherlock) is joining him as executive producer and is also set to direct. Travis Beacham (Pacific RimClash of the Titans) will serve as executive producer. He also wrote the original script, "A Killing on Carnival Row," which appeared on the very first installment of the Hollywood Blacklist in 2005.
