The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine are weirded out by the French-language remake. The trailer for the international version of the hit sitcom dropped earlier this week and star Melissa Fumero was one of the first cast members to comment on social media about it. The French-language adaptation of the show is titled Escouade 99, and the promo does look pretty weird. It appears to be a shot-for-shot remake of the original show, but with a French cast that includes Mickaël Gouin, Bianca Gervais, Mylène Mackay, Widemir Normil, and Guy Jodoin.

Melissa Fumero, who plays Sgt. Amy Santiago on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, watched the French-language promo and said, "This is like peeking through another dimension." It certainly does look like a bizarro world version of the sitcom. Fumero went on to note, "Gotta [say] though after watching this... I'm suddenly curious about the Latina population in Quebec." Her co-star Stephanie Beatriz responded with a woozy-faced emoji to Fumero, which fans enjoyed. Fumero went on and had this to say.

"While I understand the Latina population is [very] small in Quebec (and how many of them are funny actors?) the Amy [and] Rosa roles could've gone to ANY BIPOC, so it's disappointing to see that missed opportunity."

Amy Fumero was also disappointed by the fact that her French counterpart is over sexualizing her Brooklyn Nine-Nine character. "Amy is not sexy ON PURPOSE," she exclaimed. "So that bums me out too." One person commented on the Fumero's post and stated that the French promo is "fascinating." Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Joe Lo Truglio replied, "'FASCINATING'. Yeah that's one word for it."

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast aren't the only ones who are baffled by the French-language version of the show. "I think most of us were 'today year's old' when we found out there's a Quebec version of Brooklyn Nine-Nine," said one fan on Twitter. Another fan said, "TIL there's a Quebec version of Brooklyn 99... that also happens to look like a porn parody version of Brooklyn 99." Plenty of others are questioning as to why the new version of the show even exists since it is shot-for-shot the same thing. One would imagine it would have been easier to just dub over the English voices or add subtitles.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine focuses on the antics of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), an immature but talented NYPD detective, who often comes into conflict with his new commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). The rest of the cast features Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago, Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti, Dirk Blocker as Michael Hitchcock, and Joel McKinnon Miller as Norm Scully.
