During last night's "Blood Money" episode of Breaking Bad, there was a scene where Badger (Matt Jones) tells Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) about his idea for a Star Trek script which involved a pie-eating contest gone awry. Today, we have an animated version of that scene showing what this story may have looked like, which includes Matt Jones and Charles Baker's dialogue from the episode. Take a look at this animated video, then read on for details about how this story became a part of the episode.
"Blood Money" writer Peter Gould revealed that the initial idea came from series creator Vince Gilligan's idea that he had been telling the writers about since Season 1. The story then came up again during a Season 4 debate between Peter Gould and fellow writer Gennifer Hutchison, which ultimately lead to this scene in last night's episode.
"I don't want to go on a transporter because it's essentially taking you apart and putting you back together. But Genni made a pretty good argument that that would mean there were literally 100 Captain Kirks. It would be the ultimate diet, really. Eat anything you want, and then Scotty beams it out of your stomach. But like with great technology, there are terrible things that can go wrong."
Charles Baker also discussed what the scene really meant in the overall scope of the episode.
"I think Peter loves writing those scenes because it doesn't take much work for him. It's interesting. It's such a great scene, but you watch it and you realize, 'Wow, that scene wasn't anything about us. It was all about Jesse. It was just to show Aaron Paul's greatness at work without saying a word. We're Muzak.'"
