The CW has released a brand new promo for their upcoming Black Lightning series. The marketing for Black Lightning has been a little quiet up till now, save for the trailer that was shown during San Diego Comic-Con. But as the premiere date for the new DC series approaches, the network is starting to get serious about letting fans know there's a new hero in town. This new Black Lightning teaser is very brief, but it does give us a look at the new logo for the series.

This new Black Lightning trailer, which clocks in at just six-seconds in length, was shown by The CW during the first part of the Crisis on Earth X Arrowverse crossover event. That ensures that quite a few eyeballs got a glimpse of Cress Williams (Prison Break) as the show's titular hero. We seem him standing in the rain, looking rather angry before his eyes light up and he declares, "Black Lightning is back." If the teaser had to be short, they picked a pretty cool moment to focus on. The teaser then cuts to the new logo for the series, which is very comic booky and features bright yellow lettering.

Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce, who hung up the suit and his secret identity many years ago. However, his daughter, who is hellbent on justice and a star student gets recruited by a local gang. With that, he gets pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning. This makes for something a little different in the world of DC on television. The character first debuted in DC Comics back in 1977 and was the first African-American superhero to lead his own series for the publisher.

Greg Berlanti, the man behind the other Arrowverse shows on The CW, is also in charge of Black Lightning. The show was originally supposed to air on Fox, but the network passed on it. That may have had something to do with the fact that they picked up X-Men series The Gifted, instead. That left The CW to come in and scoop up another DC show for their slate. However, it's expected that Black Lightning will not exist in the same universe as shows like The Flash and Supergirl. So don't expect to see Jefferson Piece in the next CW crossover event series. But never say never.

We're likely to see another full-length trailer for Black Lightning very soon, as the Tuesday, January 16th premiere date is coming up fast. So keep your eyes peeled for that. The show will be airing on Tuesdays after The Flash, which should help early on, as The Flash is one of The CW's most popular shows.
