The CW has released the first trailer for Black Lightning season 3. The network revealed the trailer, which is really more of a sizzle reel recapping the events of the first two seasons, during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Cast members such as Cress Williams, who plays the titular hero, as well as Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, China Anne McClain, Jordan Calloway and Marvin Jones III all made the trek to the pop culture event this year to showcase the footage and discuss what's coming down the pipeline this year.

Production only recently got underway on season 3, so there wasn't much in the way of new footage to include in the reel. That said, they did manage to make an exciting, thorough video that captures the spirit of the series. But it does tease that a major war is coming in the upcoming round of episodes, with Black Lightning and his daughters being recruited to fight. Also, for what it's worth, this is the longest video released for any of the ArrowVerse shows from SDCC.

For its first couple of seasons, this particular DC Comics adaptation has existed its in own universe on The CW, and isn't necessarily a part of the ArrowVerse. The network's other shows, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and the upcoming Batwoman all occupy the same universe. Or multiverse at least. Will things change in season 3? Nothing official was said at the panel, but Cress Williams wants to see Supergirl make her way to their show.

"I want Supergirl to come to Freeland. So there's been lots of talk... nothing official, but at this point, I wouldn't be surprised."

The Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event is shaping up to be an ambitious once. Perhaps that would be a good time to finally bring Black Lightning into the fold? Another big part of the trailer has to do with villain Tobias Whale, who is now locked away firmly in The Pit. However, actor Marvin Jones III hopes it won't stay that way for long.

"That device is gonna make it hard for me to remove myself. Someone's gonna have to remove me... Hopefully someone will have a change of heart and come get a brother out... I've been praying for like four months since we shut Season 2 just to see the outcome of what Tobias Whale's fate is gonna be."

This series tells the story of Jefferson Pierce, who spent years fighting crime as a vigilante before retiring, only to be called back into service nearly a decade later. Originally, the DC Comics adaptation started life at Fox. Once they decided to pass on it, The CW saw an opportunity to expand their superhero lineup. So far, that's worked out pretty well. Black Lightning season 3 debuts on October 21. Be sure to check out the new trailer from The CW Network YouTube channel for yourself.
