The Irwin family will soon be expanding as Bindi Irwin has announced that she is expecting her first child with her new husband, Chandler Powell. This will also be the first grandchild of the late Steve Irwin, the conservationist and television personality best known as Crocodile Hunter. Taking to Instagram, Bindi referred to her upcoming bundle as their "Wildlife Warrior," revealing that she is due in 2021. In the photo, Bindi and Chandler can also be seen holding a baby-sized Australia Zoo shirt, acknowledging the famous zoo that was founded by her grandparents and is still owned by the famous Irwin family.
"Chandler and I are proud to announce that we're expecting! It's an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you," Bindi Irwin announced on her Instagram post. "Though I'm still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter. We couldn't wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us. Please let me know your best advice and send good vibes & prayers to our little sweetheart. Love & light."
With his exuberant personality and impressive work with wildlife, Bindi's father, the late Steve Irwin, is still very badly missed. In addition to his work as a conservationist and his television shows, Irwin was also known for operating the Australia Zoo with his wife, Terri Irwin. Sadly, Steve passed away in 2006 while filming an underwater documentary, but he would certainly be very proud of his children, Bindi and Robert. Although they were only small children when they lost their father, the younger Irwins have been spending their lives following in Steve's footsteps with their continued dedication to the wildlife of Australia.
The Irwin family have also become television celebrities themselves after starring on the Animal Planet reality television series Crikey! It's the Irwins. The series follows the Irwin family as they live and work at the Australia Zoo, focusing on their home life as well as their conservationist work. After airing for two seasons on the network, the show has been renewed for an upcoming third season. At the age of 17 years old, Bindi also proved herself to be a woman of many talents when she won the 21st season of Dancing with the Stars in 2015 along with her partner, Derek Hough.
When Bindi wed Powell earlier this year, her father's presence at the wedding was sorely missed. Because he couldn't be present, Robert -- a spitting image of The Crocodile Hunter himself -- walked his sister down the aisle instead. "I think that for me, it'll be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle," Bindi told ET last year. "He has been such a big part of my life and he's always stepped up and been the one to give me a hug when I need it and encourage me forward in life."
Congratulations and best of luck to Bindi and Chandler with the upcoming addition to their family. The announcement of her pregnancy was first made by Bindi Irwin on Instagram.
