Billy on the Street is coming back. Billy Eichner parted ways with TruTv after a couple of seasons and decided to focus on some other projects, abandoning his acclaimed series, in which, the host and various celebrity guests ask people on the streets of New York City questions about pop culture. Now, Eichner has partnered with Lyft and Funny or Die to resurrect Billy on the Street as a web series.

The series, which has always been produced by Funny or Die, was formally a more traditional half-hour series, originally airing on Fuse TV from 2011 to 201 before making its way to TruTV for two seasons from 2015 to 2017. The new version of Billy on the Street is being produced by Funny or Die in partnership with the rideshare company Lyft. The new episodes will be short-form and are expected to be roughly a third as long as what they were on TV. Billy Eichner had this to say about returning to his show.

"I'm back to heal the country...and the world! After five seasons of the TV series, I knew I wanted to set the show aside in order to create some time in my schedule to pursue other projects. Now that those are taking shape, I'm truly thrilled we've found a way to bring Billy on the Street back that makes so much sense for this particular show. As we all know, this is a very divisive, anxiety-ridden time and I hope these new segments, featuring the most stunning roster of guests we've ever had, give people a small burst of joy in their timelines while allowing me to comment on culture and the world at large in the unique way this show allows me to."

Even though Billy on the Street is becoming a web series that doesn't mean the level of talent being featured on the show will be downgraded in any way. Guests on the new season will include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tiffany Haddish, Kate McKinnon and Emma Stone. More guests will be announced at a later date. Funny or Die CEO Mike Farah had this to say in a statement.

"Funny or Die is proud to be producing the return of Billy on the Street with our partners at Lyft, a company that understands how comedy can bring people together, which is brilliantly showcased in this popular series. The comedy and connection that Billy is able to create on the streets of New York City is truly extraordinary and these first videos may set the highest bar yet."

The new episodes will air on Billy Eichner's various social media platforms, the Billy on the Street YouTube channel, Funny or Die's social media platforms and FunnyOrDie.com. A premiere date hasn't been announced yet and the release strategy hasn't yet been made clear. The new season could arrive all at once, like how Netflix does it, or on a weekly basis.
