Bill Maher dedicated his last segment of Real Time to bashing comic book fandom once again. The political comedian also took aim at Kevin Smith during his tirade on the culture of superheroes. Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee passed away back in November and Maher wrote a lengthy blogpost that many felt was disrespectful to Lee and the millions of fans from around the world who were in mourning. Maher went on to say adult comic book fans were a factor as to how Donald Trump won the presidency.

After Bill Maher's lengthy blogpost went viral, the comic book community took aim at him. On his latest show, the comedian claims that he lost over 40,000 followers on social media, to which he says, "good riddance." A huge backlash against Bill Maher spread late last year while Real Time was on hiatus. However, the show is back, and the comedian spent the last portion of his show going even further than he did before to lash out at adult comic book fans. He had this to say.

"Tonight's editorial is about Stan Lee who, if you missed it, died in November. And a few days later, I posted a blog that in no way was an attack on Mr. Lee, but took the occasion of his death to express my dismay at people who think comic books are literature and superhero movies are great cinema and who, in general, are stuck in an everlasting childhood. Bragging that you're all about the Marvel Universe is like boasting your mother still pins your mittens to your sleeves."

The first part of Bill Maher's rant doubles down on comments that he made earlier. When asked about the backlash back in November, Maher claimed that his tirade was not meant to be disrespectful to Stan Lee. One critic of the comedian, and a close friend to Lee, Kevin Smith defended comic books and Lee's impact on the world. Maher took aim at Smith too, which you can read below.

"You can, if you want, like the exact same things you liked when you were ten but if you do, you need to grow up. That was the point of my blog. I'm not glad Stan Lee is dead, I'm sad you're alive... Director Kevin Smith accused me of taking a shot when no shots are f*ckin' necessary, except again my shot wasn't at Stan Lee. It was at, you know, grown men who still dress like kids."

After his last remark, Bill Maher showed a picture of Kevin Smith wearing a hockey jersey, which we guess means he dresses like a child from Maher's rant. One of the major things that the comedian was trying to get across was the fact that comic books have not been a good thing in our culture and that superhero fans should grow up. But, Maher could have had a better way of putting his opinion across. In closing, Maher had this to say.

"Can we stop pretending that the writing in comic books is so good? Oh, please. Every superhero movie is the same thing - a person who doesn't have powers, gets them, has to figure out how they work, and then has to find a glowy thing... I'm sorry, but if you're an adult playing with superhero dolls, I'm sorry - I mean collectible action figures - why not go all the way and drive to work on a Big Wheel?"

If you didn't agree with Bill Maher's opinion back in November, you're definitely not going to be into his new take in front of a live studio audience. Obviously, Maher is a comedian, so he's supposed to take things a little too far, but this is his opinion and he's entitled to it. That being said, one can easily imagine that this will get Maher's name spread around the internet again, making it a win/win situation for him. You can read Maher's first blogpost on superheroes at the Real Time blog and then watch the latest clip below. The segment begins at the 50-minute mark.
