Robert Pattinson is not the only actor preparing to put his own spin on the Dark Knight. Javicia Leslie was recently announced as the replacement for Ruby Rose in the role of Batwoman for her CW show. Leslie shared a photo on Instagram of herself wearing the Bat cowl, with the following message.

"Look out, Gotham, I'm suited up and ready to go... But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit."

After Ruby Rose exited Batwoman after the first season, fans speculated who would be brought on as the replacement for Rose's Kate Kane, Bruce's cousin from an alternate reality who takes his place as Gotham's protector in the guise of Batwoman.

With Leslie's casting as the replacement Batwoman, the studio revealed the actress will not be playing Kate Kane, but a new character named Ryan Wilder, who will be taking on the mantle of the Bat. Leslie will be the first black actress to play the role of Batwoman, and during the show's panel at DC FanDome, the actress had explained how the superheroine costume will evolve to reflect her identity.

"Caroline and I were talking about how important it is that if we're going to have a Black Batwoman, that she needs to be, like, a sista when she becomes Batwoman. It's important for her to feel like the silhouette of her could still look like that, with natural textured hair and things like that."

From the look of the photo, the mask and red wig appear to be the same one used by Ruby Rose. Perhaps this is the costume the character of Ryan Wilder wears in the beginning before it evolves to more closely fit Javicia Leslie in character?

For fans of the first season of the show, it will take some adjusting to see a new character donning the Bat cowl. The official description for the character of Ryan Wilder takes care to point out that she is not going to be a clone of Kate Kane, but her own person with her own set of challenges.

"With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero."

Returning to The CW in January 2021, Batwoman features a cast consisting of Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Shivani Ghai, Leah Gibson Nathan Owens, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott and Nicole Kang. The series airs Sundays at 8 p.m.
