Last month, we reported that Vera Farmiga has signed on to play Norma Louise Bates in A&E's new series Bates Motel. Today, the network has found their Norman Bates, with Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) signing on as Norma's troubled son.

The series takes place years before the events portrayed in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror classic Psycho, giving viewers a glimpse into Norman's early life and the unique relationship he has with his mother. It isn't known if there are any other primary roles left to cast.

Anthony Cipriano wrote the pilot script and is executive producing alongside Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights). We reported in June that A&E issued a 10-episode order for the show, completely bypassing the pilot phase.

Production is scheduled to begin in early October, with the show debuting on A&E sometime in 2013.
