Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who most recently wrote the box office smash Skyfall, have signed on to write a TV remake of the 1968 classic Barbarella for Gaumont International Television.

The series will be based on the comic book character created by Jean-Claude Forest, made famous by the 1968 live-action movie adaptation Barbarella starring Jane Fonda.

Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) will direct the series and executive produce alongside Martha De Laurentiis, Julien Forest, and Jean-Marc Lofficier.

The writers do have a history with Barbarella. We reported in 2007 that they signed on to write the theatrical remake, which has still not gotten off the ground yet. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have written the last five James Bond movies - The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and last year's Skyfall.
