Brandon Routh, more than a decade after his turn as the Man of Steel in Superman Returns, is going to suit back up as the iconic DC hero. This year's ArrowVerse crossover event will adapt the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline and it's been revealed that Routh will appear as Superman in the event. Not only that, but Tyler Hoechlin, who has been playing the part on Supergirl, will also be back in the role as well. So yes, we're getting a couple of Supermans this year sharing the screen with one another.

According to a new report, The CW plans to use both Brandon Rough and Tyler Hoechlin in the role of Superman during the upcoming ArrowVerse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths. It hasn't yet been revealed which episodes the actors will appear in, but the news is expected to be confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con, where the network will have a huge presence for their DC shows. This year's event will span five nights, covering every single ArrowVerse show, including Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, who is getting her own series this fall after Ruby Rose debuted the role on last year's Elseworlds crossover.

Brandon Routh already plays the role of Ray Palmer, aka The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow. It's expected that he will play both The Atom and Superman in the crossover. Routh originally landed the coveted role of Superman in director Bryan Singer's 2006 movie Superman Returns. It was eyed as the first entry in a new era for the franchise. Unfortunately, the movie was met with something of a lukewarm response from both critics and moviegoers. Superman Returns was also not a hit at the box office. It grossed a decent $391 million worldwide, but weighed against its reportedly massive $270 million production budget, it was a loss for the studio and Warner Bros. eventually rebooted the series with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is one of the most famous events in the history of DC Comics. Published in 1985, the event was cooked up by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez. The crossover centers on a villain by the name of Anti-Monitor, the reverse of The Monitor, who was introduced in Elseworlds last year. He wishes to wipe out all life across the multiverse and, on his quest, does battle with many of DC's most famous heroes. Superman, Batman, The Flash and Supergirl, amongst others, all join in on the fight. The event is notable for the deaths of both Barry Allen and Supergirl.

We're likely to learn more about this Superman situation, as well as this year's ArrowVerse crossover, during the weekend at SDCC. We'll be sure to keep you posted with all of the big news coming out of the panels, so keep an eye out. Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman all return this fall on The CW. This news was first reported by Deadline.
