That's a wrap for Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, as the actor has announced he is finished filming on the final season of Arrow. As previously reported, the show's current eighth season will be its last, and Amell has taken to Twitter to reveal his thoughts on wrapping up his work on the popular superhero series. "Words can't even begin to express what Arrow has meant to me. Best 8 years of my life," Amells says in the tweet, which brought about a flurry of emotional fan responses. He adds: "The cast and crew of the show have become my family. I'm going to miss them. I'm wrapped." You can take a look at the touching tweet from the Arrow star below.

Based on the DC Comics superhero Green Arrow, The CW's Arrow has been airing on the network since 2012. With Stephen Amell in the lead role, the show follows billionaire playboy Oliver Queen as he takes on a secret life as a crime-fighting vigilante. As his name suggests, his weapon of choice is a bow and arrow. Some of the other names to appear on the series in prominent roles include David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Caity Lotz, Colton Haynes, Willa Holland, and Katie Cassidy Arrow is now in the midst of its eighth and final season, , and the final episode is set to air on The CW on Jan. 28, 2020.

Arrow may be coming to an end on The CW, but the universe it has created will live on on the network. In 2014, The CW debuted the spin-off series The Flash with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. This marked the start of an expanded "Arrowverse," with many other superhero series set in the same universe to follow over the next several years. Vixen and Supergirl would premiere in 2015 with Legends of Tomorrow arriving a year later. 2017 saw the debut of the Arrowverse show Freedom Fighters: The Ray, and, more recently, The CW's Batwoman was released in 2019 as the newest spin-off set in the Arrowverse.

As for Amell, the Arrow star has already lined up his next starring role in a TV series. The actor has signed on for the Starz drama series Heels, which is set in the world of independent professional wrestling. Amell will be co-starring with Vikings star Alexander Ludwig as a pair of wrestling brothers who share the same big dreams of moving on to the bigtime. The two are also fierce foes inside the wrestling ring, with Amell playing the "bad guy" while Ludwig will be the "good guy," but outside of the ring, these lines will be much more blurred. It's not yet clear when Heels will air.

You can watch the last of what's left of Arrow when the final new episodes air Tuesdays on The CW. It's been an incredible run for Arrow, and Amell is going to be incredibly missed as the Oliver Queen character after playing the part for so many years. Hopefully, cameo appearances in other ArrowVerse shows aren't out of the question, but that might depend on how Arrow ends. This news comes to us from Stephen Amell on Twitter.
