Paramount's upcoming big screen adaptation of Nickelodeon's iconic kid-horror anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark? is changing things up behind the scenes. But today we have word that the planned revival series that was teased to coincide with the theatrical movie is still going strong and headed our way this Halloween! Not only that but the three-episode hourlong limited series has snagged its cast which includes IT and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween star Jeremy Ray Taylor.

Taylor will be joined by the likes of Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.), Miya Cech (Rim of the World), Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl), Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick), and Rafael Casal (Blindspotting). The limited horror series is slated for premiere in October and will be directed by Power Rangers and Project Almanac filmmaker Dean Israelite from a series of scripts written by Skiptrace screenwriter, BenDavid Grabinski (who should be writing a Tremors movie with a name like that).

This new series will introduce an entirely new Midnight Society played by the above mentioned Taylor, Arnold, Cech, Smart, and Wray who will tell a new and terrifying tale about the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life. Casal will play Mr. Tophat, the Carnival of Doom's ringmaster.

The Are You Afraid of the Dark? limited series is produced by ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I've Loved Before) with Spencer Berman and ACE founder Matt Kaplan serving as executive producers. Israelite and Grabinski will also executive produce.

This update comes to us on the heels of the lame news we shared with you guys a week or so ago that IT and The Nun screenwriter Gary Dauberman has dropped out of the production on the upcoming adaptation from The Disappointments Room and Disturbia director D.J. Caruso. While that movie has been moved out of its October 2019 release date, it's still expected to debut later following some behind-the-scene changes. So that's good.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a Canadian horror anthology series for kids that was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel. It premiered on Nickelodeon's SNICK on August 15, 1992, and aired until April 20, 1996. Notable guest stars include Ryan Gosling, Melissa Joan Hart, Hayden Christensen, Neve Campbell, Elisha Cuthbert, Jay Baruchel, Laura Vandervoort, Tyler Labine, Bobcat Goldthwait, Charles S. Dutton, Emily VanCamp, Rachel Blanchard, Jewel Staite, Aaron Ashmore, Mia Kirshner, and Gilbert Gottfried.

I'm a massive fan of the original series and own every single episode on DVD (yeah, boy). So if you've never seen an episode of the series and want to dip your toes into its 90's awesome-ness, my top episode recommendations are as follows: The Tale of the Midnight Madness, The Tale of Old Man Corcoran, The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner, The Tale of the Dead Man's Float, and of course, The Tale of Laughing in the Dark with Zeebo the clown. But be warned, The Tale of Laughing in the Dark with Zeebo the clown is some seriously freaky stuff. My kids won't even watch it all the way through. And they've seen IT. True story.
