The CW seems a fitting home for Riverdale, the new hour-long drama based on the iconic Archie comics. It is coming from executive producer Greg Berlanti, who has found tremendous success on the network with his DC Comics series Arrow and The Flash. Riverdale was originally set up at Fox, where it was in the process of being developed, but has now moved to the home of Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries.

Riverdale is a planned subversive take on the wholesome town and its residents. These include Archie characters Archie, Betty, Veronica, Moose, Jughead and even Josie and the Pussycats. It's too early to tell if we'll get to see the ultimate DC/Archie crossover, but those talks will surely start happening once the show hits the air. Archie Comics' chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is penning the pilot script, with Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater also serving as executive producers. Aguirre-Sacasa had this to say to Deadline.

"When Greg and I started talking about bringing these characters to life, our first thought was that the best home for them would be the CW. It took a little longer for us to get there, but now that we're here, it's feeling terrific."

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is a consulting producer on CBS' Supergirl, which Greg Berlanti is producing. Greg Berlanti is also behind NBC's much-buzzed drama Blindspot and The Mysteries of Laura. On the comic book side of things, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is notorious for writing the Afterlife With Archie series, which finds the Riverdale gag battling zombies. He also penned The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, which follows Sabrina's encounter with Witches and Covens. It isn't known yet when Riverdale will premiere and casting has not yet begun.
